I am a Senior Lecturer and Director, Undergraduate Programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at Simon Fraser University (SFU). I hold a doctoral degree in immunology and vaccine design. In 2010, I started a position as teaching faculty and developed the identity of "educator." Since I started, my goal has been to enhance the culture of teaching and learning within my Faculty and the University.
In my time at FHS I have:
Taught 50 courses since 2010.
Developed a repertoire of 10 courses at all undergraduate levels.
Completed 4 education scholarship inquiry projects.
Published 1 research paper and 2 classroom case studies.
Served as Faculty Teaching Fellow for 6 years.
Facilitated Instructional Skills Workshops.
Initiated and co-led the Education Challenge Area in FHS.
Collaborated with the Tenure Promotion Committee (TPC) to enhance teaching assessment.
Led the Faculty as Director, Undergraduate Programs, and Chair of the Undergraduate Studies Committee for 2 terms.
I am exceptionally privileged to live in Temtemíxwten (Belcarra) on the shore of Səl̓ilw̓ət (Burrard Inlet). This is traditional Tsleil- Waututh territory.
I work on Burnaby Campus, which is territory stolen from the səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.
I am grateful to be able to live here and enjoy these spectacular lands and waters.

This website highlights my teaching practice, leadership and service with an emphasis on work I have completed since 2016 when I was promoted to Senior Lecturer. I have organized it into sections that directly related to the promotion criteria for University Lecturer as highlighted in the FHS TPC guidelines. These include:
A sustained record of excellence in teaching.
Distinction in teaching & learning & innovative practices.
Excellence in educational leadership.
Sustained and innovative contributions to curriculum development & course design.
Involvement in service.
The website contains individual pages that describe my teaching, leadership, and service, as well as reflections on my experiences. I have linked relevant examples and reports throughout for easy access. These include course portfolios, workshops, grant reports, and published work.
This is not a comprehensive description of my work, but I have selected items that have impacted my students, faculty, and myself most.
This is my first attempt at building a website. A HSCI 482 - Senior Seminar in Infectious Diseases student inspired me to make this. She created a website on Zika Virus for her term project, which motivated me to do the same. We always have things we can learn from our students. You can see her site on the course page.
In certain parts of this dossier, I have used ChatGPT to organize ideas or refine language. I have used Grammarly to enhance my spelling and grammar. All ideas and content are mine.
I am appointed as teaching faculty at Simon Fraser University in the Faculty of Health Sciences. In accordance with SFU policy, my workload is described as 80% teaching and 20% research.
Currently, I am appointed as Director, Undergraduate Programs. This comes with a release from 2 courses per year, bringing my teaching assignment to 4 courses per year.
*In FHS, an 80% teaching load is assigned 6 courses per year.
**Calculation based on 2 course releases per year as Director, Undergraduate Programs
